Kogatsujiki [小喝食]

小喝食(こかっしき / Ko-kasshiki) appears here as a young temple acolyte from the world of Noh: a boy poised between monastery and everyday life.

This hand-carved wooden mask shows a calm, attentive youth, the type used for acolyte roles who call out the meals and sometimes step forward as dancers or singers.

Within the Kasshiki group of Noh youth masks, Ko-kasshiki marks a smaller, more boyish acolyte. The compact proportions and low weight (21 × 14 × 6.5 cm, 106 g) match a wearable stage format, while the clean carving and presence of hair identify the character as not yet fully ordained. A silk bag accompanies the mask, indicating it has been stored with at least basic care.
